Landing Your First Job in the Digital Arts

Join students, faculty, and alumnae/i of the M.A. and M.F.A. in Digital Arts for a discussion about careers in the diverse field of Digital Arts, what skills are needed to get started, and how to land your first job, pick up your first client, or start a creative business.

Robin Smith – Digital Arts Faculty + M.F.A. Alumna

Robin Smith is an interdisciplinary digital artist, currently based in Virginia Beach, using media to tell stories that allow people to learn about worldviews and lifestyles that they would not normally be exposed to in their own daily lives. Her goal is to encourage audiences to experience something new through various forms of digital media, including video, audio, web development, and code.

Her practice is also focused on creating multi-platform educational experiences – teaching people how to use digital media to tell their own stories.

Adam Schwarz – Current M.F.A. in Digital Arts Student

Adam Schwartz graduated from American University in 2003 with a Bachelors of Science in Audio Technology. Since graduating, Adam has held almost every job in the audio for video production industry. He has worked as sound designer, post production mixer, dialogue and music editor, composer, voice over and ADR recordist and editor, and production sound mixer on a wide variety of projects. Adam has worked on nationally televised shows and commercials including live television for clients including NBC Universal, PBS, Sprout, A&E, Bio and History Channel. He has also worked in all aspects of audio production for feature documentaries, and short films.

In 2015 Adam accepted a Lecturer position in Towson University’s Department of Electronic Media and Film.  Since moving into academia Adam has been exploring multichannel sound installation and sound design for VR.  In the Summer of 2018 Adam was accepted into the Digital Arts MFA program at Goucher College where he continues to study.

Kris Raser – M.A. in Digital Arts Alumni

Kris Raser is a designer, producer and educator whose work intersects at various points where design, user experience, video production and digital instruction overlap.

Raser first studied Art at Millersville University in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and graduated in 1997 with his undergraduate degree. After taking quite a few years off from higher education to work in leadership and managerial roles in youth ministry (Young Life) and environmental education (NorthBay Education), he completed his Master of Arts in Digital Arts degree in the summer of 2014 at Goucher College in Towson, Maryland. This MA in Digital Arts helped prepare Kris for his current full time position as Digital Content Specialist in the Reference and Instruction department of University of Delaware's Morris Library.

Along with his full-time work at the University of Delaware, Kris recently began teaching the Interaction Design course in the Art & Design department at UD, helping undergraduates learn best practices for developing their UX chops. Raser also teaches introductory online digital-art courses (Photoshop & Illustrator) at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) & University of Maryland University College (UMUC).
