Study Abroad in Nepal with Goucher College Graduate Programs

Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 6:00 PM until 7:00 PMEastern Daylight Time UTC -04:00

Study abroad in Nepal for two weeks in January 2025!  Join the program directors of Goucher College’s MA in Environmental Sustainability & Management (MAES), MA in Historic Preservation (MAHP), and MA in Cultural Sustainability (MACS) to explore an exciting opportunity for new and current graduate students.

Nepal is a multiethnic and multicultural country, representing a fusion of Indo-Aryan and Tibeto-Mongolian culture. Nepal is also rich in biodiversity and is situated where two geologic plates are colliding to form the majestic Himalayas. Climate change is impacting Nepal through extreme weather, flooding, landslides, food shortages, and a rapidly changing ecosystem. As a result, significant spiritual, cultural, and heritage sites are under threat. The people and communities of Nepal are assessing and adapting in response to these changes.

In this intensive Course Abroad (ICA) for Goucher graduate students, we will take a transformative journey through the heart of Nepal, visiting Kathmandu, Patan, Chitwan, Pokhara, Ghandruk, and Bhaktapur. Through hands-on experiences, engaging discussions, and meaningful interactions with local communities, students will explore how Nepal is grappling with the challenges of environmental change, while preserving its rich heritage, unique cultures, and natural treasures. Join us in unraveling the complexities of sustainable development in one of the world's most breathtaking landscapes.

The Nepal study abroad experience is indicative of Goucher’s graduate program flexibility and demonstrates interdisciplinary opportunities for students studying environmental sustainability, historic preservation, and cultural sustainability.  This collaborative field course merges three disciplines in ways that Goucher graduate students find inspiring and useful.  Graduate students can also pursue dual degrees in two master’s programs and take elective courses across programs.

If you are considering Goucher College graduate school, please join us on July 9 at 6 pm ET to learn more.
