In the summer of 1997, a group of journalists, essayists, and memoirists gathered with faculty on Goucher’s campus in Baltimore to study a genre of writing with deep roots and a new name: creative nonfiction.
Twenty-five years later, the MFA in Nonfiction’s students and graduates have published more than 160 books and countless articles, won dozens of awards for their writing and scholarship, and helped to expand the boundaries of the genre. We’re holding a three-day event with in-person and virtual options to celebrate these accomplishments, talk about the evolution of telling true stories, and assess the marketplace for them.
The Nonfiction Summer Sessions is the first in a series of events over the next year, both online and virtual, that aims to tell a new story — one about writing nonfiction, sending good work into the world, and exploring the possibilities for both. For questions about the conference, please contact nonfiction@goucher.edu.
